The Zone 5 Police Headquarters has commenced investigation into an alleged machete attack by a female police operative on two women in Isoko South area of Delta State.
The victims; Erowo Ekere, her sister, Joy, had in a petition through their lawyer, Dele Igbinedion, accused woman sergeant Edith Agholor of brutalising them with a machete while under detention at Oleh Police Station on December 29, 2016. What happened?
The sisters want police authorities to take disciplinary actions against the sergeant and three others and also demanded N100m compensation or face legal action within seven days.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 5, Abubakar Muhammed, who spoke shortly after the decoration of 49 newly promoted officers on Tuesday, said though the accused officer had denied the allegation, she would be investigated before being arraigned if found culpable.
The AIG, who spoke through the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Emeka Iheanacho, said, “The matter is with us; we have gone far with our investigation. The woman police on her part denied but we have called for more witnesses. So at the end of the day, we are going to address the press.
“The woman police officer has been invited and has made a statement and the woman that was inflicted with machete cut injuries has equally made a statement. So, we are calling for all the witnesses that saw the incident.
“If at the end of the day, it was established that the woman sergeant actually did that, we will subject her to our disciplinary measure before taking her to court.”
