Saraki Meets Nigeria Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo As Presidency Reveals Senate’s Plot

Overwhelmed by negative reactions to some observations on the floor of the Senate, the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki on Thursday night held a secret meeting with the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.


Investigation revealed that the Senate President’s meeting with the Acting President was based on “some developments that occurred in the Senate during the week, including the suspension of consideration of further nominations by the Executive in protest against the retention of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, and the consequent threats of impeachment by some Senators.

A source said: “The Senate President met with the Acting President. He actually came alone and without the paraphernalia of his office to underscore his commitment to rapprochement between the Executive and the National Assembly.

“Saraki took time to explain a few things to the Acting President, but the talks bordered on the clarification of a few misgivings, especially the rumour that he was planning to become the Acting President or instigating the Senate against the Presidency.

“He also took time to explain why the Senate wanted its resolutions respected in line with the principle of separation of powers.

“Above all, the session was actually frank.”

Findings made by our correspondent also showed that Thursday’s meeting between Osinbajo and Saraki was preceded by a visit the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress ( APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, paid the Acting President on Wednesday night.

Before his visit to Osinbajo, Odigie-Oyegun was said to have reached out to the Senate leadership, asking them to prevail on warring senators to tread softly so as not to plunge the nation into unnecessary crisis.

A government source said: “The APC National chairman came at a time the Acting President was about to have a meeting with a select group of government officials. He was asked to join the meeting, which bordered on the battle line drawn by the Senate.

“During the session, the APC National chairman said he had interacted with Saraki and advised the Senate leadership and Senators to ‘lie low’ and avoid anything capable that was capable of plunging the nation into crisis.

“Oyegun also said the APC could not understand why the party in power would be in opposition against itself.

“No one can say if Oyegun’s intervention was responsible for the visit of the Senate President to Osinbajo.”

There were indications yesterday that the Presidency had uncovered four planks on which the Senate is hinging its threats of impeachment.

One of them is the running battle between the Presidency and the Senate over continued stay of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, in office.

A reliable Presidency source said: “Intelligence report revealed that some senators have identified four issues to take the Presidency on.

“These issues are insistence on the removal of Magu; the renewal of the row between the chamber and the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Col. Hamid Ali(rtd); the alleged denigrating comments of the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption(PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay and alleged constitutional breaches by the Acting President and the Presidency in general.

“Although the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, told the party leadership that the impeachment kite caught him unawares and he swiftly overruled the senators behind it, intelligence report indicated that “it was a kite flying agenda” by some senators.

“The government does not wholly believe the defence of the Senate leadership. It is closely monitoring events and putting safety valves in place, including legal dimension.

“Part of the intelligence report showed that some senators had plotted the impeachment script before the Tuesday session.

“Those who tabled the motion were actually not aware that the Acting President had returned to the country.”

It was learnt at press time yesterday that some past leaders (names withheld) had teamed up with the Acting President against the threats from the Senate.

“These leaders have told the Acting President to remain focused and ignore elements trying to cause political upheaval in the country.

“In fact, they assured Osinbajo of their support. These are leaders who the government thought had identified with the Senate.”

The tone for the impeachment process was set by two issues raised on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday.

The Senate had on Tuesday taken exception to the retention of the Acting Chairman of EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, and the Executive’s alleged non-compliance with the resolutions of the Senate.

The President of the Senate had said: “This is an issue that we have to once and for all address. We cannot pass laws and see that the laws are not being obeyed. This resolution must be obeyed by the Acting President, otherwise we will take appropriate actions and resolutions.”

On the same day, Senators Eyinanya Abaribe and Kabiru Marafa had under Point of Order asked the Senate President to become Acting President in the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari and the Acting President, who was away for AU meeting in Addis Ababa.

Marafa said: “If the President is not around, the Vice President should act, and if the Vice President is not around, the Senate President, who is the number 3 citizen should become Acting President.”

Tragedy; Container Falls Over Commercial Bus In Ojota Lagos Killing Five People (See Photos)

No fewer than five persons lost their lives in the early hours of Saturday after a truck fell on a bus in the Ojota area of Lagos.


It was learnt that the occupants of the bus were church goers returning from a monthly vigil.


The accident occurred when a truck carrying two 20ft containers fell on a commercial bus with Reg. No. FST 944 XR, and crushed five persons to death on the spot.


Mr Adesina Jamiu, the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, who confirmed the accident, said that three other passengers were rescued.


The dead bodies were taken to Ikorodu General Hospital, while those alive were taken to Lagos State Emergency unit at old Toll Gate Alausa.

NHIS Boss Been Suspended By Federal Government Due To N58m SUV

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, on Friday announced the suspension of the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Prof. Usman Yusuf, for three months.


Findings revealed that one of the allegations against Yusuf was that he bought a sport utility vehicle for N58m.

In a statement signed by the Director of Media and Public Relations at the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Boade Akinola, the minister said the suspension was due to a series of petitions written against Yusuf.

The statement read in part, “The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has directed the Executive Secretary / Chief Executive Officer of National Health Insurance Scheme, Prof. Usman Yusuf, to proceed on three months suspension with immediate effect.

“According to the directive, the suspension was a result of various allegations and petitions against him. The minister also said he had directed the setting up of an investigative committee to look into the various allegations in accordance with the public service rules.

“The suspension became necessary to allow for an uninterrupted investigation. Prof. Usman Yusuf was, however, directed to hand over to the next most senior general manager in the agency.”

Continuing, the renowned cleric said; “It is an irresponsible act for anyone to be wishing the president death. Nobody who has a good heart will be wishing a leader death. You don’t wish your leader death. Nigerians should be careful as only God has the power of life and death. Stop wishing the president death.

If your husband or wife is sick, would you wish him or her death? Buhari is somebody’s husband and father. If your father is sick, would you wish him death? I know that what I’m saying now some Christians won’t like it. But that is the truth. Stop wishing the president death. Pray for his health, life belongs to God. I see peace in Nigeria and there will be peace in Nigeria.”

Speaking against the backdrop of the insinuation that some preachers do incite violence, Apostle Suleman denied ever inciting violence but said he would maintain his stand against any attempt at killing Christians in a nation that belongs to all.


“I don’t incite violence, I have never incited violence. But no true man of God who loves his people would keep burying them and do nothing about it,” he notes.

Meanwhile, the preacher popularly referred as ‘The Restoration Apostle’ will take the ministry’s healing and miracle conference, ‘Help From Above’ to Minnesota, America, on 18th and 19th of July, 2017. A Nevada jury sentenced to death a man convicted of killing the hitman he’d hired to murder his sixth wife

Last week, jurors found Thomas Randolph, 62, guilty on two counts of first-degree murder. On Wednesday, they handed down two death sentences for the 2008 murders — one for the murder of his sixth wife, Sharon Causse, and the other for his hired hitman, Michael James Miller, PEOPLE confirms.

On August 23, Randolph will return to court for the formal entry of the death sentence by a judge.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Randolph showed no emotion when the sentence was read. Colleen Beyer, the daughter of the woman Randolph ordered to be killed, cried and embraced friends.

“He’s a monster,” Beyer told the Review-Journal. “He’s one evil, evil monster.”

In 2008, Randolph told police he saw an intruder in a black ski mask in the entrance hallway of his home after finding his wife shot. NBC3 News Las Vegas reports that Randolph claimed he acted in self-defense and fatally shot the intruder.

The Review-Journal reports Randolph has been held without bail since 2009 in the Clark County Detention Center.

Randolph was to get more than $360,000 in insurance money after Causse’s death, reports the Review-Journal.

In 1986, Randolph went on trial for allegedly killing his second wife, Becky Gault, in Utah, the Las Vegas Sun reports. Gault’s death was eventually deemed a suicide by the coroner and Randolph was acquitted. Her death provided roughly $500,000 in insurance money for Randolph, the Review-Journal reports.

In his last trial, the prosecution pointed out similarities between Causse’s 2008 death and Gault’s 1986 death.

“I don’t think the jury could have come up with anything else but death,” Sandra Miner, a friend of Randolph’s wife, told NBC3.

Miner said “if they could resurrect him, he deserves to be killed a second time,” reports NBC3.

Last Friday, after Randolph had been convicted and was facing the death penalty, the 62-year-old wore a Tony Romo jersey into the courtroom, the Review-Journal reports.

The Review-Journal reports that Randolph’s defense attorneys plans to appeal, but all capital punishment cases are automatically appealed, the court told PEOPLE. If the judge confirms Randolph’s sentence on Aug. 23, an automatic appeal will take place.

Gunmen Kidnappers Demand N14m Ransom For The Release of The 14 Kidnapped Passengers

Fourteen passengers travelling from Warri in Delta State to Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, have been kidnapped by gunmen at Rumoji, near Port-Harcourt.


Security sources said on Thursday that the incident occurred on Monday.

It was gathered that the gun-wielding hoodlums waylaid the bus and dragged all occupants into a nearby bush from where they were whisked away.

Punch Metro gathered that the hoodlums, who had contacted the family of the victims, demanded N1m ransom on each for the passengers.

A source said, “The gunmen have reduced the ransom to N100,000 for each of the passengers.

“The 14-seater bus was travelling to Port Harcourt when the men waylaid it and kidnapped all occupants, including the driver.”

When contacted, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, confirmed the incident.

He however, explained that the kidnap happened at Rumoji in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and not in his domain (Delta State).

“The incident actually happened in Rumoji in Port Harcourt and not in Delta State.

“The passengers were travelling from Delta State to Port Harcourt, in Rivers State. They were kidnapped in Rumoji in Rivers State,” he added.

New Amendment Been Made Which Allows NOUN Graduates To Be Eligible For NYSC & Law School

The Senate has passed an amendment to the law establishing the National Open University, which will make graduates of the institution eligible for mobilisation by the National Youth Service Corps and to attend the Nigerian Law School.


The passage followed the adoption of a report by the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund on the ‘Bill for An Act to Amend the National Open University Act Cap N6 LFN 1983 (Amendment) Bill 2017’ by the lawmakers at the plenary on Thursday.

In the report, the Senate panel stated that the amendment to the National Open University of Nigeria Act was to bring the institution at par with the regular universities in the country.

The report said, “The objectives of the bill are as follows: firstly, to amend the existing legislation with a view to removing the perception of the public about the university in respect of the word ‘correspondence,’ which gives the impression that the university is not a full-time university and, as such, seen as part-time.

“These two concepts – correspondence and part-time – significantly affect the way the public views the programs run by the university. This has been the reason why the Law graduates of the school are not admitted into the Nigerian Law School as well as the reason for the non-inclusion of the graduates of the university into the National Youth Service Corps scheme.

“Secondly, to include lnformation and Communication Technology as another means of providing tuition towards the advancement of learning throughout Nigeria. The National Open University, as currently run, depends critically on virtual learning and students’ individual research, hence, the need for improvement and introduction of helpful learning tools as presented by lCT. This will further deal with the challenge of limited access in the tertiary education sector.”

Nigeria Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme Suffers Acute Leukaemia

Wolves and Nigeria Super Eagles goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme is to begin chemotherapy after being diagnosed with acute leukaemia.


The Championship club say Ikeme, 31, returned "abnormal blood tests" during pre-season testing and further checks confirmed the diagnosis.

Ikeme has been with Wolves for his entire career, making more than 200 appearances for Wanderers.

Thirty-three of those came last season, having previously been in the team that won the League One title in 2013-14. "It would be an understatement to say that everyone at Wolves has been shocked and saddened to hear the news of Carl's diagnosis," said Wolves managing director Laurie Dalrymple.

"That relates to both players and staff as Carl has been at the club for a very long time and remains such an integral personality within the group.

"At the same time, we all know what a fighter and a competitor Carl is, and I have no doubt that he will take all of those attributes into this battle.

Adedeji's Family Says Aregbesola’s Outburst Against Deji Adedeji Is Appalling

For describing business mogul, Deji Adeleke, as being insane, the family of the late Isiaka Adeleke, yesterday, faulted Governor Rauf Aregbesola, saying the outburst was appalling.


This was contained in a statement issued by the Adeleke family in reaction to the statement made by the governor at a campaign rally in Ede on Wednesday.

Aregbesola, at the campaign of the All Progressives Congress in the Osun-West senatorial district by-election holding on Saturday, said Deji might have gone mad because of the death of his elder brother, Isiaka.

The governor’s vituperation was in reaction to an allegation that he owed Deji money. But Aregbesola said he did not borrow any money from Deji at anytime, saying it was the Adelekes that had been collecting money from him.

He said, “Deji Adeleke is a businessman, he is not a politician but it is like his brother’s death has run him mad. (O dabi pe iku egbon e ti da lori ru). It is a lie that I borrowed money from Deji.

“It is to the glory of God that they got the Certificate of Occupancy of their university from our government. Why didn’t those who are their new friends give them the C-of-O of that university? If Deji Adeleke had so much money, why did he beg me to waive the payable tax of his university? Why couldn’t he just pay?

“I am bold enough to say this over and over again because I have never sought assistance from any member of the Adeleke family, even during the lifetime of Senator Isiaka Adeleke. Nothing of such occurred.”

But the Adeleke family stated that the utterance of Aregbesola was not befitting of a governor, stressing that the governor, who had not held the television programme, ‘Ogbeni Till Day Break’, for some years, hurriedly organised one after the sudden death of Isiaka and he danced all night long during the show.

The statement read, “What’s more appalling is Aregbesola’s outburst – as widely quoted in major newspapers, that Senator Isiaka Adeleke’s sudden death ‘has affected the psyche’ of Dr Deji Adeleke. How? One may want to ask: If Aregbesola has a giant, a towering personality and eminent person like the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke in his family, and he lost such a distinguished personality to the cold hands of death, will he take to the streets and dance merrily?

“Why should Ogbeni Aregbesola carry politics to this ridiculous end and act like a tin god, who will never leave the office as governor and this transient world as a human being? To those of us living, inclusive of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, we don’t know how we will end up. Senator Isiaka Adeleke died gloriously. The whole world celebrated his death.”

“What is the sin of the Adeleke family in putting one of their own forward to contest the Osun-West senatorial by-election, if that is what is giving Ogbeni Aregbesola some concern.

“If Aregbesola is talking of a contentious Certificate of Occupancy, is he the one that provided the billions of naira that put Adeleke University up as the ‘Harvard’ of Nigeria?”

How Do You Know If You Are Enough For Your Husband?

I cuddle up to him as he sits and reads on the couch. I sheepishly look into his eyes and wish he could see the turmoil of my heart. "Do you love me?" I ask and wait with baited breath for his response.

Tenderly he lifts my chin and smiles, "Of course I love you."

And I know he does. In the time I have known him he has never done anything to make me believe otherwise.

Yet I doubt. I wonder if he loves me. I wonder if I am enough.

Rewind fifteen years to a collection of women sitting around a u-shaped table. I was twenty-something, in a room of other up-and-coming twenty-somethings who had been chosen for a "preacher's intensive" with a world class speaker. She was introduced and the room silenced in awe.

"What have you got to prove?" she asked.
And one by one, we acknowledged what we had to prove.

All who went before me answered something along the lines of, "I have to prove Jesus is the Son of God who died for the sins of the world." Very spiritual, God-fearing answers.

I started to freak out. While I loved God with all my heart, it wasn't the first thing to pop into my mind when asked what I was trying to prove.

When it came my turn to answer I swallowed hard knowing I was about to make myself vulnerable.

"That I'm good enough," I shrugged. "Not a very godly answer."

There was a hush in the room as our mentor responded, "But an honest one."

While a decade and a half has passed between my admission and today, it appears I have not changed. I still find myself trying to prove I am enough. Even to my husband, the one man on earth whom I don't need to prove myself and has never made me feel less than enough.

But let's be honest, though there is no reason for me to feel this way, I regularly feel I am not enough.

Because I regularly don't feel enough, I have trained myself to know I am enough. And there is a big difference. I have learnt to silence feelings and go with what I know. Knowing trumps feelings every time.

Knowing will not work when it is rooted in yourself. It has to be rooted in something stronger. The mothers at school drop-off will not help you know you are enough. Your husband cannot convince you you are enough. Knowing you are enough only comes through the Word of God.

1). You are enough as a homemaker
Proverbs 14:1 "A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands."

I am not the greatest homemaker. My home looks more like a bomb site than the cover of House and Garden. But building your home has nothing to do with pendant lighting or color palettes. Building the home is a matter of the heart. A wise woman builds her house with love, laughter, peace, kindness, patience - I think they're called the fruit of the Spirit. So what if the dishes are piled high and the beds aren't made, if the fruits of the Spirit are at work within the family, the home is built.

2). You are enough in the bedroom.
Song of Solomon 4:9-10, 12 "You have captured my heart, my treasure, my bride. You hold it hostage with one glance of your eyes, with a single jewel of your necklace. Your love delights me, my treasure, my bride. Your love is better than wine, your perfume more fragrant than spices."

"You are my private garden, my treasure, my bride, a secluded spring, a hidden fountain."

There are times when I look in the mirror and feel I am not enough. Some parts of my body I wish were bigger and other parts I wish were smaller. Now I can get all hung up on this, but it benefits no one. And it is not truth. Song of Solomon says I am captivating; a delight; my love is better than wine.

Girlfriend, you are more than enough. Your husband chose you. He was excited by the thought of having you all to himself when he got down on one knee. You are anything but boring. You have no idea how intoxicating you are.

3). You are enough of a woman.
Proverbs 31:28-29 "Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her: 'There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!'"

Women tend to downplay their achievements. They naturally shy away from praise and accolades. Therefore it is with confidence I say, woman, you are more incredible than you think you are. If only you could see yourself the way others do. The way your husband does. You would see of all the amazing women on the earth, you are greater than them all.

No, you may not feel like you are enough. But feelings are unreliable. Know. Know you are enough. In the eyes of your husband and in the eyes of God, you are more than enough.

"Only Court Can Stop The Recall Process of Dino Melaye" - INEC Tells Sanate

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Nigeria, has stated that only a legitimate court order can stop the recall process of Senator Dino Melaye.

The Chief Press Secretary to INEC chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, said this on Tuesday while speaking to newsmen in Abuja.

The commission has already fixed August 19 for verification of signatures of petitioners demanding Melaye’s recall, amid various lawsuits instituted to stop the process.

“The constituents came with sacks of documents which they said were `the signatures’ of more than half of the voting population of Kogi West Senatorial District, which Melaye represents.

“They also presented a register of the said signatories and a letter, asking INEC to begin the process of recalling the Senator representing that particular district.

“Subsequently, the commission, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Sections 116 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), on Monday issued a timetable and schedule of activities for the recall of the Senator.

“The first stage is a verification exercise slated for July 10, 2017. “To that extent, filing a lawsuit is not enough to stop INEC from carrying out its legitimate duty.
“Only a legitimate court order or an injunction can be considered by the commission,” he said.

On claims by Melaye that some of the signatures submitted to INEC were forged and that names of dead registered voters were also included, Oyekanmi said: “The commission will adopt its normal way of conducting the verification exercise, which will be applicable to both the literate and not-so-literate.”

This is a huge issue in a culture of abundance. Examine your checkbook, bank account, and credit card statements, and you’ll soon discover if this issue of greed is your heart problem.

Who is ruling us when we over-spend, or when we build up credit card debt and accumulate “beyond our means” to quickly repay? Proverbs 22:7 says “the borrower is the slave of the lender.”

3). You Are Becoming A Show-off
It’s not a matter of “keeping up with the Joneses” now, but also the fashion trends of the Kardashians and the Hollywood crowd, and every enticement from Apple and the

Shopping Channel and… it never ends!
The Bible says our unhealthy desires of the flesh, our constant cravings for things we see, and our pride in possessions are “not from the Father” (1 John 2:16).

But we love to flaunt our new purchases, don’t we? God gives us many things to enjoy, but we’re not to become “haughty” or proud, setting our hopes on “the uncertainty of riches” (1 Timothy 6:17).

Consider where and how you seek acceptance. Listen to your conversations. Check out what you post on Facebook. Are they are reflection of your thoughts and beliefs about money? Are you praising God for His good gifts, or bragging?

4). You Forgotten the Source
We love money when our hope and security are misplaced, rooted in our financial accounts rather than the Lord. Those who find their security in their possessions may come emotionally unglued when their valuables fall apart or “thieves break in and steal” (Matthew 6:19).

Sometimes money draws us away from trusting God in subtle ways. If you’re not sure you’re wandering, ask, “Does money bring me more joy and satisfaction than loving, obeying and serving the Lord?”

Deuteronomy 8:18 says, “You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth.”

5). You Are Tempted to Sin
The love of money can lead us to many choices for sinful gain: cheating, etc.

Love of money clouds good judgment. Blinded by greed and lusts, you may get caught in “a snare” (1 Timothy 6:9).

Guard your heart, and if you find yourself tempted to make sinful financial choices, repent of losing your “first love” and return to the Lord!

Ugandan Civil Servants In New Laws of Dress

The Ministry for Public Service in Uganda has directed public servants to dress “decently”, and has warned women not to show their cleavage, wear short skirts, sleeveless blouses and long hair.

Women’s pant-suits are allowed, but female public servants will not wear any tight-fitting clothing.

Flat, open shoes are also ruled out, except in cases where one can prove that it is for medical reasons.

The circular further states that accessories should be modest and women should not have bright hair colour, braids or extensions.

Men are required to wear neat, long-sleeved shirts, jackets and ties, trousers that are not tight, keep their hair short and neat, and also not wear brightly-coloured clothes.

The circular is derived from Public Service Standing Orders on dress-code, put in place in 2010.

However, the dress-code does not seem to have been paid much attention until now.
