With all International attention Rema is gaining, is it safe to say that he’s now bigger than Mayorkun?
It is not about who started first, it’s about how much you’re able to make an impact locally and internationally. If we’re rating Wizkid, Burna Boy and Davido as the biggest music export in Africa based on their international influence, then Rema’s is doing closer in line to the throne than Mayorkun.
Rema vs Mayorkun – Based On International Acceptance
Rema’s international fan base is getting stronger by the day. The rate at which his music is getting international recognition is huge. The Mavin wonderkid, Rema recently performed alongside some foreign artistes at the NBA finals in the United States, Chicago.
We should not forget the fact that Rema’s song “Iron Man” was the only song by Nigerian artiste that made Obama’s playlist last year.
He was also the only Nigerian act, that shared the stage with Future when he headlines his show in Nigeria during the Detty December.
Mayorkun vs Rema – Who’s Bigger In Nigeria?
Mayorkun scores a big gap when it comes to this basis of comparison. In Nigeria’s music industry, Mayorkun and Rema’s both have Headies Next Rated to their awards collections.
Just last year, Mayorkun won two Headies Awards, Best Hip Hop World Revelation and Best Rnb/Pop Album for his “The Mayor Of Lagos Album”.
But we know Nigerians to give enormous accolades to those act who solidify themselves internationally than those who claims to be a local champion.
Hence, If Rema by chance gets hold of an International award nomination, then Nigerians might be quick to disregard the Mayorkun’s home-based award.
Mayorkun has this annual headline concert he put up tagged ‘The Mayor Of Lagos” and for the third year in a row, the “Geng” crooner has been making waves with it.
I think locally, Rema still has a lot of catching up to do when it comes to comparing him with Mayorkun.
So Guys
Do You Think Rema Is About To Surpass Mayorkun’s Level Musically?
