This is The Full Details of Fresh Multi-Million Fraud Against Madam Diezani (See Photos)

An official of Fidelity Bank, Mr Timothy Olaobaju on Monday narrated how a former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, stashed a sum of $115,010,000 in the bank with instructions to convert it to naira and be distributed among individuals.

Among the beneficiaries, Olaobaju said, were a Senior Advocate of Nigeria,
Mr. Dele Belgore; and a former Minister of National Planning, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, who both received N450m in the run-up to the 2015 general elections.

Olaobaju said this on Monday when he appeared as a prosecution witness before Justice Rilwan Aikawa of the Federal High Court in Lagos, where Belgore and Sulaiman are being tried for alleged money laundering involving N450m.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission charged Belgore and Sulaiman with five counts.

Charged along with the SAN and the ex-minister is Diezani, who is said to “still be at large.”

The EFCC had earlier arraigned Belgore and Sulaiman on February 8, 2017, but they were re-arraigned on Monday on an amended charge, where the name of Diezani appeared as one of the defendants.

Upon their re-arraignment on Monday, Belgore and Sulaiman pleaded not guilty to the five charges just as they had earlier done.

Trial commenced immediately after the defendants’ plea with the EFCC calling Olaobaju as its first witness.

Led in evidence by the EFCC prosecutor, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo, the witness said, “Sometime in April 2014, our MD, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo, gave a directive that certain companies and individuals would pay into an account with our bank some amounts of money. The purpose of the payment was not disclosed.

“Over the period, thereafter, some amounts were paid into the account. The funds were deposited in dollars. The total sum was $115,010,000.

“On March 27, 2015, there was an instruction from the former Petroleum Resources Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, through our MD, that the funds in the account should be converted to naira and paid to certain individuals of which the list of beneficiaries was sent to our MD and the amount to be paid to them in naira.

“The funds were paid according to Alison-Madueke’s instructions.

“On the list sent to our branch, the names of the defendants (Belgore and Sulaiman) were on that list because the money was paid in about 36 states of the federation.

“The defendants are not customers of our bank.

“The instructions were that the sum of N450m should be paid to Mr. Dele Belgore (SAN) and Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman.

“They both received the money and they filled the Receipt of Payment as evidence of receipt of the money and acknowledgment of same.”

The witness said Belgore and Sulaiman signed separate Receipts of Payment for the same N450 on March 26, 2015.

The court admitted both Receipts of Payment in evidence and marked them as Exhibits 1 and 1A.

Asked by the prosecutor whether any cheque was issued in favour of Belgore and Sulaiman in respect of the fund, the witness answered in the negative.

Asked whether the N450m was credited into any account, the witness said, “To my knowledge, the N450m was not credited into any account.”

For the cross-examination of the witness, Belgore’s lawyer, Chief Ebun Shofunde (SAN), asked for an adjournment, stressing that most of what the witness said on Monday were not in the proof of evidence front-loaded and served on the defence counsel.

Sulaiman’s lawyer, Mr. Olatunji Ayanlaja (SAN), aligned himself with Shofunde.

The prosecutor said he would grudgingly concede to an adjournment till Tuesday in view of his respect for the defence counsel.

Justice Aikawa consequently adjourned the matter till Tuesday for further proceedings.

In the charges, Sulaiman, a professor of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Abuja, and Belgore, a former governorship aspirant in Kwara State, were accused of conspiring between themselves to commit the offence on March 27, 2015.

The duo were accused of making a cash transaction of N450m on March 27, 2015, without going through any financial institution. They also paid N50m to one Sheriff Shagaya.

The cash was above the lawful threshold permitted by the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act.

Court Sentenced Man To Death By Hanging For Burning His Girlfriend To Death (See Photos)

A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on Monday sentenced one Azubuike Ogonor to death by hanging for killing his girlfriend, Blessing Iyumame.

Azubuike was found guilty of setting his girlfriend ablaze after pouring petrol on her body.

It was also learnt that the convict also inflicted machete cut injuries on Blessing’s body before she was rushed to the hospital.

Delivering judgement, Justice Chioma Okirie said Azubuike had confessed to the crime.

According to the judge, the convict committed the crime by pouring petrol on the victim and using matches to set his girlfriend on fire after pouring petrol on her.

Justice Okirie had also observed that there was no misunderstanding between the man and his girlfriend to have warranted the attack on the deceased after staying together throughout the night without any quarrel.

The court stated that the convict became aggressive after sighting Blessing with another man and felt she was cheating on him with the man.

The tragic incident was said to have happened in the convict’s room.

It was learnt that the lady was rushed to a nearby hospital in Ahoada before she was transferred to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, where she later died.

Justice Okirie commended parties involved in the case, which lasted for 12 years and four months, for their patience till the day of judgement.

The prosecution counsel, Chijioke Boms, explained shortly after the judgement that the court did justice to the matter.

Boms warned that people must resist the temptation of taking the law into their hands no matter the level of provocation.

Joseph, father of the late Blessing, said he's satisfied that his late daughter had got justice at last.

Azubuike's lawyer, N. S. Ibrahim, had pleaded for leniency after the judgement was delivered.

Landlord Got Beaten To death Over Abuse of Property

A 46-year-old landlord, Omotayo Sanda, whose property is located on Hassan Close, Itoki, Ogun State, has been beaten to death by his neighbour’s son, Joseph Isiwele.

26-year-old Joseph rained blows on Omotayo and fled the area after the landlord fell and died.

It was learnt that Joseph’s elder brother, Michael Isiwele, had packed some sand from a pit in the backyard of Omotayo’s house on Saturday, without seeking his consent.

Michael was said to have used the sand to fill the frontage of his father’s house, which had been affected by erosion.

It was gathered that when Omotayo, a painter, returned from work that day around 8pm, he noticed what had happened and became enraged.

He met the siblings’ dad, Edward Isiwele, asking why the sand was packed without his consent.

As Edward tried to placate the painter, Joseph reportedly confronted him for complaining about the sand. He reportedly descended on the father of three children and beat him to a pulp.

Omotayo’s first child, 18yrs old Taiwo Sanda, told Punch that her father slumped and was rushed to a private hospital, which rejected him.

Taiwo said, “I returned from where I was learning catering around 7pm that day and saw Michael packing sand from our house. When I asked him who gave him permission, he laughed and left.

“When my father arrived home at about 8pm, he asked me who packed the sand and I told him it was Michael. He went to Michael’s father’s apartment. As they were discussing, Joseph came out and started abusing my father for complaining about the sand.

“He pointed a finger at my daddy’s face and my father warned him that he was not his mate. Joseph started punching him, while his father and elder brother watched. Some neighbours later came to separate them and my daddy slumped.

“I rushed to get him water but he could not take it. We took him to Dabfek Hospital, near our house, but the doctor referred us to another hospital. Joseph carried him on his back home and we started looking for a vehicle to take him to a general hospital.

Joseph fled when he discovered that my father was no longer breathing.”

The teenager said her distressed mother had been relocated to a relative’s house, urging the police authorities to ensure justice in the matter.

Ogun State Police PRO, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi said a manhunt had been launched for the fleeing prime suspect, adding that Edward and Michael were under interrogation.

He said, “The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed that the case be transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department".

"The Killing of Herdsmen Did Not Carry Any Arms" - Benue State Governor

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has reacted to the renewed attacks by suspected herdsmen in the state.

No fewer than 10 persons were killed and several others injured after suspected herdsmen attacked Mkgovur village in Buruku Local Government Area of the state last Friday. The All Progressive Congress (APC) LG Secretary, Hon. Terseer Shirga, was among those killed in the attack. (pictured)

It was gathered that herdsmen forcefully entered the village to graze on farmlands but were resisted by the youths. They left only to mobilise and returned to the village in large numbers shooting sporadically and chasing everyone from their homes.

"The Federal Government has to rise up to its responsibility as far as this crisis is concerned and do more to avoid further bloodshed in Benue State. The police must step up their activities and arrest these criminals who come around and murder my people," the Governor said earlier today while visiting affected areas.

"I was expecting the security agencies to have arrested those who killed these people.
I am here personally to find out and I have already confirmed that none of the herdsmen were killed or attacked. My people were the ones attacked. So this is not allowed. I am a man who fears God and I am always fair in my judgement.

"As far as I am concerned, there is no record of any herdsman who has been killed or any of the cattle rustled or killed. So why should my people be killed? These people who were murdered here did not carry any arms. They were killed in cold blood. This is not right and the security men will just have to step up because to allow impunity to continue will not be fair. And I have a limit to how I can restrain my people from going for revenge. I have a limit even as Governor. I am not happy with this development. I expect that the security men should go after the armed herdsmen. I have restricted my people from killing Fulani men or killing their cattle."
