[VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS] England 2 – 0 Lithuania {2018 World Cup Qualifier 2016/17}
The returning Jermain Defoe and substitute Jamie Vardy gave England a 2-0 win over Lithuania to consolidate their lead in Group F.
Jermain Defoe made a goalscoring return to the international fold as England chalked up a routine 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Lithuania.
The 20th strike of Defoe’s international career came after 21 minutes at Wembley and four years on from his 19th versus minnows San Marino in March 2013.
Aside from the 34-year-old Sunderland striker celebrating a starting berth in familiar style, there was little else to write home about in a forgettable encounter.
Manchester City centre-back John Stones was forced into a goal-line clearance on the stroke of half-time but Gareth Southgate’s side closed out victory in comfort after Defoe’s replacement Jamie Vardy doubled their advantage midway through the second period.
Burnley’s Michael Keane made his competitive debut alongside Stones at the heart of defence and England are the only side yet to concede a goal in the European qualifying section.
They sit five points clear at the top of Group F ahead of nearest challengers Slovenia facing Scotland at Hampden Park later on Sunday.

Sad: UNILAG 100L Female Student Dies After She Returned From Outing With a Man and Kept Vomiting (See Photos)
A 100 level student of the University of Lagos identified as Temitope Omolara died on Thursday, March 23rd after she reportedly went out with an unidentified man.
According to Nigerian Tribune, the deceased was said to have returned to the campus after the outing feeling sick, with her friends reporting that she was seen vomiting, including blood on a number of occasions.
Temitope was said to have finally died at an undisclosed hospital outside the campus on Thursday. Her remains were buried on Friday, March 25th.
Details of the circumstances leading to her death still remain fuzzy. The university authority, on Sunday evening, reacted to a tweet, which alleged that the student had died at the university’s medical centre.
A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr Toyin Adebule, also discredited claims in the tweet that the school had ejected some students from their halls of residence in connection with the incident.
"Information available so far indicates that she called someone (some say, relations, others say male) to come and pick her from the hall. Later information filtered into the hall that she had died" the statement reads.
"I wish to state that the story about the Medical Centre is false. Definitely, the incident did not happen in the medical centre contrary to the claim in the Twitter massage. Lastly, there is no formal report from the hall to the DSA on the incident. Therefore, no action could have been taken to eject the bona fide student as claimed. Let me state categorically here that no student has been ejected from the hall over this matter. At this moment our thoughts are with the family."

$200 Million Loan Been Approved By World Bank For The Boost of Agriculture In Nigeria
The World Bank has approved $200 million loan to Nigeria to support the government’s effort to boost small and mid-scale farmers.
A statement issued by World bank on Friday said the funds will help tackle low yields, lack of seed capital to set up agro-factories, low-level adoption of technology and limited access to markets.
'Priority value chains will include products with potential for immediate improvement of food security, products with a potential for export and foreign currency earnings,' the bank said in the statement.
According to the Bank, about 60,000 individuals will benefit directly from the funding, of which 35 percent are women. About 300,000 farming households will be affected indirectly.
However, Nigeria is aiming to achieve self-sufficiency in rice by 2018 and in wheat by 2019 or 2020. By the latter date, it also hopes to be a net exporter of rice, cashew nuts, groundnuts, cassava, vegetable oil and many others with the World Bank loan.
