Check Out Photos From The Launch of WhiteDecember Foundation International

On the 23rd of December last year, the Four-Point hotel by Sheraton at Victoria Island Lagos, played host to the launching of WhiteDecember Foundation.

The vision of the foundation is to get the less privileged children prepared for their future and the future of Nigeria at large, using education.
The reason for this according to the founder, Mr. Efe Obanor is due to the high cost of education in Nigeria.

“We at WHITEDECEMBER Foundation want to empower the less privileged digitally by making technology work for education”.
Continuing Obanor said,

“We want to give them knowledge by setting up IT centres in orphanage homes across the country; teach them to read, write and become computer literate to improve their lives on their own and at their own pace.”
Obanor made reference to the CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg and how he had his first computer at the age of 11 saying that was an inspiration.

“I believe when the less privileged in our country have access to information and communication technology at an early stage in life, it will really impact their lives positively and enhance the overall productivity of the child and broaden their thinking and perceptions about life.”
“Having access to the internet means they can have better reach. Through Google and YouTube they can read and watch tutorials and as computer literates, they can use ATMs, banking apps and other apps and devices that require technical knowledge.”
According to him, “Our leaders will be able to communicate with their constituents directly, and also it would help our democracy too because I believe the time will come when we will have electronic voting machines. So on the long run it will be of economical and political benefit to the Nation.”

Giving insight into future plans and projects of the foundation, Obanor said,

“We are about to start the construction of WHITEDECEMBER Scholars Academy. A purpose built primary and secondary school with modern facilities at Ajah, Lagos State, it will be exclusively free for the less privilege. The work has begun and we have fastened our seat-belts to go on this prosperous ride with these beautiful children.”

NYSC in Ekiti Reacts to Story of Manhandled Female Corper By Man-O-War Commandants

The NYSC in Ekiti State has issued a rejoinder over claims that its official brutalized a Corper in the state for not wearing her jacket. The statement:

Angel Eluna is unkown to NYSC Ekiti State. I wish our young Nigerians will be truthful and bold enough to narrate issues as they really are and put their real names on such narrations.

The real corps member involved in this matter is CONFIDENCE AZUBUIKE (EK/16B/2389). She was not molested by any official of NYSC Ekiti State. Rather it was the other way round.

Confidence in her statement to the State Coordinator said she held the official’s shirt by his collar because she did not know he was an official.

She quickly released him when the Local Government Inspector introduced himself. Investigation into the incident which required the call for the corps member’s file has revealed a whole lot about who Confidence is.

One wonders the source of Confidence’s confidence in being so unruly. You need to see what she wore for Community Development Service. Her cap was wrong, White T-Shirt was something else, her canvas was Pink, Khakhi Jacket tied round her waist. Above all, she refused to be corrected and would rather fight the NYSC official.

Let it be known that the reddish patch on her arm was caused by the long chain of her handbag strap. It was as she held the officer’s shirt that the bag strap pressed on her arm leaving the reddish spot because she is fair. This is the Account of an individual that witnessed the incident.

NYSC Ekiti is coordinated by a mother who will not allow any of her corps members to be maltreated by anybody. However, she will not tolerate any misbehaviour on the part of the corps members. She calls them “My sons and daughters”. She will not hesitate to call her erring daughter Confidence to order and that she will do in this matter.

- there are always two sides to a story.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed Reacts Over Workers Protest For His Sack

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said that he is not surprised that workers in his ministry are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack him.

He, however, said due to inadequate resources, there was a limit to what the federal government could do on workers’ welfare.

Lai spoke in a response to the protest by unions in his ministry demanding his removal for allegedly not addressing issues bordering on their welfare.

He told State House correspondents that it was impossible for the government to meet the workers’ demands owing to paucity of funds.

“It is not unusual for unions to call for the removal of ministers. Any minister should expect that.  They are complaining about welfare, but there is a limit to what government can do within the available resources.

“As much as we sympathise with them on the situation, the economy is simply not healthy enough to accommodate what it is used to accommodate in the past.

“If anybody is concerned and worried about expenditures in my ministry, they should go and check because it is open.

“We have appealed to them several times, but we met a culture that we cannot sustain”, he said.
