Meet Two Roommates Who Graduates With First Class In UNIZIK (See Photos)
Like Siamese twins, they share many things in common. Aside having the same middle name, Henry Ikenna Ozor and Joshua Ikenna Akuchi, are close friends with a common destiny.
After being classmates in secondary school, they were admitted into the Faculty of Engineering of the Nnamdi Azikwe University (UNIZIK) in Anambra State, where they became roommates.
At the school’s 11th convocation last month, Henry and Joshua were the cynosure of all eyes as the best of graduating students.
As written by The Nation's Oluchukwu Igwe
Henry, from Iwollo in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, graduated with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.85 to become the best graduating student not only in the Department of Chemical Engineering, but also in the faculty.
Joshua, who hails from Ezza North Local Government in Ebonyi State, graduated with a CGPA of 4.66, emerging as the best graduating student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Their record-breaking academic journey started before their admission. Henry scored an aggregate of 332 in the 2011 United Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). After his admission, he represented the university in the maiden National Engineering Competition organised by Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology (CODET). Joshua was the first runner-up; Henry the second.
Sharing their experiences and challenges with CAMPUSLIFE, the valedictorians said the feat would not have been possible if they had not won scholarships to complete their studies.
Henry said: “As an indigent student, I had a challenge of paying my fee. I remember I could not pay school fees and house rent when I was in 100-Level. I would have lost my admission, because I had no financial support. I searched for scholarship, and I wrote many examinations as possible. By the grace of God, I got scholarship from ABC Transport Company, Shell Petroleum Development Company and Chevron/Agbami Joint Venture. I was also encouraged and financially supported by Allied Energy. The money I got from these companies yearly helped me to pay my fees and buy books.”
Joshua said: “I squated in a friend’s hostel for about eight months when I was in 100-Level until I got money to pay my rent. Like Henry, I also applied and wrote many scholarship examinations. I was able to get Agbami Chevron/Agbami Joint Venture scholarship, which helped to pay my school fees.”
Their feats, the valedictorians said, got their parents excited. Henry said: “My parents were over excited, because of the challenges they experienced in getting me to the level I am today.”
Joshua continued: “My mum was overjoyed, though she expected it. She could not believe it when it was confirmed. My dad said he wanted to keep hearing the testimony of how I made it happen and each time he hears it, it is breaking news to him.”
Sharing the secret of their feat, Joshua said anybody’s success is dependent on the kind of company he keeps. “I have always had successful and hardworking people around me. So, I draw energy and motivation from them. I would say that God’s favour made it happen, but I enjoy reading in the night except at weekends,” he said.
Joshua continued: “Most of the time, I came back from night class around 5:30am to sleep before going for lectures. After lectures, I would return to my hostel to prepare for night reading. After sleeping for two to three hours, I would wake up to go for fellowship. From there, I would go for night reading till the following morning.”
Henry said commitment, consistency and discipline are the prices to pay for success. Anybody, he said, could be the best, if he shows discipline and commitment. “My daily routine is similar to Henry’s; only that I slept for more hours than I studied,” he said.
What is their sole desire? The valedictorians said they would be happy, if any of their junior colleagues in their respective departments could break their academic records. Achieving a CGPA of 4.85 would demand vigorous study. But, Henry believes his academic record could be broken if students set their priorities right.
He said: “The only thing that kills a mission is distraction. I will advise my junior colleagues to design a plan and timetable, because they cannot be reading at random and expect to have a well-structured result. They should try to summaries their lecture note and textbooks in their own understanding for better concentration, comprehension and retention.
“If, after reading, and one cannot clearly understand key concepts and highlights of a course, then it is a clear sign that such a person did not understand it or he may be cramming. I equally believe that everyone has its own way of achieving excellence. What is needed is self-discovery.”
Joshua said: “Academic excellence is achievable for students who wish to attain enviable feat and height in their studies. They must carefully choose their friends, dedicate quality time to studies and be ambitions. They must always make up for lost time. The Almighty God is the pillar of all wisdom and knowledge.”

[VIDEO HIGHLIGHT] Watford 0 – 1 Liverpool {Premier League 2017}
Emre Can’s stunning acrobatic goal was enough for Liverpool to capitalise on slip-ups from their rivals for a Premier League top-four finish and beat Watford 1-0 on Monday.
With Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal all dropping points a day earlier, the Reds went in search of a potentially priceless victory to boost their Champions League aspirations at Vicarage Road.
And Can produced a moment of magic that will be repeated on highlight reels for years to come, his sublime bicycle kick enough to decide the match as Sebastian Prodl struck the bar for Watford late on.
Can’s marvellous strike was a moment of relief for Liverpool, who were beaten 2-1 by Crystal Palace last time out, after the Reds lost star playmaker Philippe Coutinho to injury early in the game.
That prompted the return of Adam Lallana from the bench for his first Liverpool appearance since March due to a thigh problem and the England midfielder was unfortunate to see a wonderfully executed volley hit the crossbar with the match goalless.
Liverpool, who won the reverse meeting 6-1 in November, created the better chances after the break but one goal was enough for them to strengthen their hold on third and move four points clear of fifth-placed United, having played a game more while Watford stay 13th.
Coutinho was hurt in an innocuous-looking clash of legs with Adrian Mariappa and, shortly after, Miguel Britos hobbled off for Watford to be replaced by Christian Kabasele.
The injuries took the sting out of the opening exchanges, but Can almost brought some much-needed life to proceedings with a well-struck left-footed effort from 25 yards that Heurelho Gomes parried to safety on his 100th consecutive league appearance.
Both teams were struggling to stamp their authority on a turgid half until Lallana went desperately close to a goal-of-the-season contender with a magnificent dipping volley that crashed against the crossbar.
Lallana was outdone by Can’s effort on the stroke of half-time, though. Lucas Leiva clipped a lofted pass into the area and the Germany international executed a spectacular bicycle kick that nestled in the top-left corner
Watford beat Liverpool 3-0 in last season’s corresponding fixture but offered little on this occasion, and Gomes had his palms stung by James Milner’s 20-yard free-kick after the interval.
The goalkeeper was also equal to Divock Origi’s bending effort from outside the box, while the striker was later wasteful when one-on-one with Gomes.
Simon Mignolet had largely been a bystander, but the Belgian made a fine fingertip stop to keep out a well-hit shot from Etienne Capoue, who was booked for remonstrating when referee Craig Pawson failed to spot the shot was saved.
A fully fit Lallana perhaps would have done better with a poor first touch when played in by Can, while substitute Daniel Sturridge was brilliantly foiled late on by Gomes.
Liverpool were almost caught cold in the last minute of injury time, but Prodl’s fierce half-volley cannoned back off the crossbar, leaving the visitors breathing a late sigh of relief.

Bishop Seun Adeoye Says President Muhammadu Buhari Must Not Die
A Pentecostal Bishop, Rt. Rev. Seun Adeoye, has urged Nigerians to pray for the quick recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari, saying his wellbeing is so important to the nation’s stability.
Bishop Adeoye warned that if anything should happen to Buhari, such would be a difficult burden as Nigeria will fall into wrong hands that are ready do anything to turn it into their private estates.
The cleric, who spoke during the 1st Episcopal Honours and Gallantry Awards held at Sufficient Grace and Truth Ministry, Rehoboth Arena, Okinni, Osun State, last weekend, noted that only God can sustain the President’s health.
He said: “ I see trouble should anything go wrong with President Buhari. So, we need to pray for his quick recovery from this ailment. Buhari must not die; Buhari must live and that should be our prayers.
“If Buhari is not the president, we will be faced with more lies and propaganda where we are going to be made to call black white. Rule of law will turn to be rule of fear and democracy will be replaced by despotism, favoritism and god-fatherism.
“We cannot allow Nigeria to be in the hand of any of the present leaders. None of them can be the captain of this ship; they will run it aground with their arrogance and selfish agenda. They will rob, strip us Unclad and put us in perpetual bondage as slaves. So, I enjoin all of us to pray for the President Buhari to get well quickly.”
