He Proposed And She Said 'NO' Then He Punched Her In The Face
A thug turned up at his girlfriend's work to pop the question - and punched her in the face when she said no.
Andrei Pavel left Andrea Nagy with “significant injuries” in the horror attack after splashing out on an engagement ring and a bunch of flowers.
Following his arrest Pavel, who has no previous convictions, told police officers he was upset by the rejection.
Now he has been banned from contacting his victim for a year after pleading guilty to assault by beating.
North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard Pavel and Nagy had been in an “intense” relationship for three months and had moved in together before hitting a rocky patch.
But Pavel, from Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs, was keen to get things back on track and turned up at Nagy’s workplace on July 21 to propose.
Prosecutor Ruth Bentley said: “She described the relationship as intense. She moved in with him after two months but the relationship broke down and they split up.
“Since that time he had been contacting her via texts. He did not want the relationship to end. He was trying to get it back on track, and even purchased a ring and asked her to marry him.
“She was handed a note at work, which said the defendant wanted to speak to her. She met the defendant who was waiting outside with a bunch of flowers.”
The court heard Pavel proposed to Nagy but she said no.
Bentley added: “He punched her to the face, knocking her to the floor for a matter of seconds. She was left with an injury to her face.”
The court heard Nagy said she was scared of the defendant and described him as jealous and controlling.
Court Sentences Samsung Heir To 5 Years Jail Over Bribery And Other Crimes
A bribery and cronyism scandal that has already toppled a South Korean president has claimed a major business scalp after a court sentenced Lee Jae-yong, the acting chairman of Samsung, to five years in prison after finding him guilty of offering bribes and other crimes.
The billionaire, who is South Korea’s third-richest man and heir to the Sprawling Samsung empire, had been accused of making large donations to foundations run by a close friend and confidante of the deposed South Korean president, Park Geun-hye, in return for political favours.
The court said Lee had provided bribes anticipating support from Park, who was still president at the time, according to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency.
The court also found Lee guilty of hiding assets abroad, embezzlement and perjury.
Lee’s lawyers are expected to appeal, and the case could end up being decided by the country’s supreme court, possibly next year.
While the 49-year-old, who is also known as Jay Y Lee, was spared the 12-year term demanded by prosecutors, his sentence is the longest given to any South Korean chaebol leader.

Terrorist Blow Themselves Up Rather Than Surrender To Police (Photo)
This is the moment a suspected terrorist cell opted to blow themselves up rather than surrender to police.
Police had tracked the four extremists to a house in the village of Psedach in south western Russia's Republic of Ingushetia, where they ordered the men to surrender.
However, rather than give themselves up, the group opted to set of a bomb which destroyed their hideout, killing all four of them.
The gang of extremists had been hunted by the Russian secret services in connection with the attempted murder of policemen.
Federal Security Service operatives surrounded their hideout, and the group began shooting at the officers, who returned fire.
Photos show how the huge explosion from their suicide bombs ripped the roof off the little cottage.
No one else was injured in the blast, which was captured in footage taken by Russian national anti-terrorism committee.
The terrorists were believed to be members of the Khunzakh militant group.

The withdrawal of the quit notice was announced in Abuja on Thursday evening by the leaders of the group at a press conference.
Before the announcement was made, members of the group had met with the Governor of Borno State, who is also the Chairman of Northern Governors’ Forum, Mallam Ibrahim Shettima and a former governor of Kano State, Alhaji Kabiru Gaya.
Also in attendance at the meeting were ex-minister Sani Daura and the Leader of Arewa Youths Council, Alhaji Shettima Yerima and a Nollywood actor, Kenneth Okonkwo.
The group said it decided to withdraw the threat as a result of what it described as intense persuasive pressure from concerned political, traditional and religious leaders in the country.
A member of the Northern Emancipation Network, Alhaji Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, read the text of the press conference.
He said, “Most significance was our correspondence with the then Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and most recently our interface with the Presidency through the Special Assistant to the President on Political Matters, Babafemi Ojudu.
“As a consequence of these vigorous engagements and as a cultured people with a tradition of respect for our nation’s values, leaders and elders, we are today pleased to announce the immediate suspension of the relocation clause otherwise referred to as the quit notice from the Kaduna Declaration.”
Suleiman said that the group was not afraid of sticking with the notice, but said that the suspension was as a result of the respect the group had for a “united, peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.”
The text was signed by leaders of the 14 groups, including Yerima, the leader of Youth Consultative Forum who read the Kaduna Declaration, where the quit notice was given.
Even with the withdrawal of the quit notice, Suleiman said that the group would still pursue its petition to the United Nations and the call on the Federal Government to mete appropriate sanction to the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
He equally called “for the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu and for his appropriate prosecution while calling on the Senate to demand that all senators who stood surety for him in court should rescind their bond or be suspended accordingly.”
The group further promised to “remain available for further interaction with other groups including those from the South-East with a view to building a greater united Nigeria.”
In his short speech, Governor Shettima commended the group for suspending the quit notice order, adding that the concern of the northern governors was to prevent people from hiding under the notice to harm other Nigerians.
He said there was no need to withdraw the quit notice via a statement, adding that “we are here to ensure that the quit notice was publicly withdrawn the same way it was made publicly.”
According to the governor, the order would have been withdrawn earlier than now but to avoid any division within the groups.
“I am proud of Nigerians and I am also proud of the Igbo,” he said, noting that the hope of the black man rests on a united Nigeria.

"Release Our Indigenes Held For Illegal Hawking In Lagos" - Ebonyi To Ambode
Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi has called on the Lagos State Government to release 180 Ebonyi indigenes held in Lagos for hawking.
Umahi made the call on Thursday in Abakaliki, when he received a delegation of Ebonyi indigenes residing in Onitsha, Anambra, who visited him over the plight of some indigenes of the town.
Umahi, represented by his deputy, Dr Kelechi Igwe, said the government was dismayed by the report from the Ebonyi Development Association in Lagos concerning incarcerated 180 indigenes.
“The 180 victims were accused of contravening a law of the Lagos State Government on street trading, but the intriguing aspect is that they had been incarcerated before the law was enacted.
“Most of them had spent over two years in incarceration before the law was enacted, but they were unfortunately charged under the same law.
“I will immediately consult and interact with my Lagos counterpart to ensure the immediate and unconditional release of the victims,” he said.
The governor said the days of treating Ebonyi citizens as second-class citizens in the country were over, saying the government would extend its empowerment schemes to its indigenes residing across the country.
“The government would immediately procure over 130 tricycles to enable hawkers of Ebonyi origin in Onitsha and environs to quit the trade and be gainfully employed.
“We would accommodate over 20 indigenes in Onitsha in our empowerment scheme, which would offer them a grant of N250,000 each, to quit street trading and be gainfully employed.
The leader of the delegation and the governor’s Senior Technical Assistant, Onitsha Liaison Office, Mr Mathew Njoku, thanked the governor for the reception and pledged to contribute its quota to the state’s development.
