23 Nigeria Universities Adopt 120 Cut-Off Mark By JAMB


At least 23 Nigerian universities have adopted the 120 cut-off mark recently introduced by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB.

The universities, mostly private, are among the 168 universities in Nigeria whose cut-off marks were released in a document Premium Times obtained from JAMB on Friday.

Some English Words Frequently Used In Nigeria That Can Never Be Found In Dictionary


Check out the list of words below. Lets learn....

1. Installmentally:

This “word” is a favourite of many Nigerians, but, sadly, it simply does not exist. You won’t find it any reputable dictionary. The correct thing to say when “installmentally” comes to your mind is in installments or by installments.

2. Plumpy:
Nigerians use “plumpy” when they want to say that someone is chubby or slightly fat. The correct expression is plump.

3. Disvirgin:
This particular “word” is used severally on a daily basis, especially by Nigerian men when they intend saying that a woman has lost her virginity to a guy. The correct word to use, however, is deflower, because “disvirgin” is not a word.

4. Cross carpeting:
This is a favourite of Nigerian politicians and political analysts alike. They use it when they want to say that a politician has dumped his political party for another party, usually a rival party. The right terms to use when describing this scenario are party switching, defection and crossing the floor and not “cross-carpeting” or “crosscarpeting.”

5. Go-Slow:

The word go-slow exists, but not in the way Nigerians use it. A “go-slow,” in the peculiarly Nigerian context, is a situation in which road traffic is very sluggish due to vehicle queues. However, go-slow in the English language actually means an industrial tactic used by employees whereby they intentionally reduce activity, productivity and efficiency in order to press home some demands. When this happens, you say that work in the office, factory or organization is at a go-slow. The correct terms to use when road traffic is very sluggish due to vehicle queues are traffic jam, traffic congestion, gridlock, and (less technically) hold-up, not “go-slow.”

6. Cunny:
“Cunny” is not found in authoritative dictionaries, but it can be found in some slang dictionaries. Over there, it is a slang used to refer to a woman’s v**ina. The correct term to use is cunning (which is used to describe someone that is being deceitful or crafty) and not “cunny.”

7. Opportuned:
There is nothing like “opportuned” anywhere in the English language, but that has not stopped its blatant use by all and sundry in Nigeria, including journalists and writers. The correct word is opportune. The word opportune is an adjective; therefore it has no past tense. An adjective has no past tense. However, some verbs can function as adjectives or adverbs in a sentence. These verbs are called participles and they do have past tenses. They are not pure adjectives. Examples of participles are fattened, amused, disgusted, mystified, overwhelmed, upset and bored. Be that as it may, opportune is a pure adjective and not a participle, therefore it has no past tense. Opportune means appropriate or well-timed.

8. Alright:

“Alright” is a misspelling of the term all right. All right is used when you want to say that something is adequate, acceptable, agreeable or suitable. To hardcore English language linguists, “alright” is not a word. However, its usage is gaining traction and it’s increasingly becoming acceptable. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary – which is considered the gold standard among American English speakers – has recently drawn a lot of criticisms for its permissiveness when it began indexing some otherwise colloquial and street language terms, including “alright.” Most linguists disagree with the gradual acceptance of “alright” as a word by the public and even the media, while those in the minority are “alright” with it.

9. Wake-Keeping:

“Wake-keeping” exists only in the imagination of a few English speakers. As a matter of fact, there is no such thing as “wake-keeping.” The correct word is wake and not even “wake-keep.” Both “wake-keeping” and “wake-keep” are ungrammatical.

10. Screentouch:
This bad grammatical expression gained currency in Nigeria and neighbouring West African countries with the influx of made-in-China stylus pen touchscreen not-so-smart phones in the mid 2000s. It was a novelty then; many in Nigeria had not seen it – or even thought such advanced technology was possible – before. So, they looked for a name to call it and “screentouch” came to mind, after all you just touch the screen and it starts working. In case you’ve still not figured it out yet, the correct thing to say is touchscreen and not screen touch

Enugu State Police Arrested Notorious Kidnapper, Nnadi Daniel (See Photo)

Nigerian Police Force, Enugu State Command on Sunday said it has arrested one Nnadi Daniel, a notorious armed robbery and kidnapping suspect in Uzo-Uwani area of the state.


A statement by the spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said the arrest was part of ongoing onslaught by the police at Adani and Nimbo axis of Uzo-Uwani area to tackle crime in the state.

SP Amaraizu noted that the suspect and other suspects were arrested through a well coordinated operation borne out of intelligence.

He said the suspect was implicated in the kidnap and murder of Enechi Ejiofor and Emmanuel Okeja on December 13, 2016 and January 3, 2017.

He also stated that the suspect participated in other kidnappings, robbery, murder, burglary, stealing and other vices that had taken place in the area and its environs in the past.

He added that operatives raided an identified notorious forest known as "Malaysia Forest" through a well co-ordinated operation.

Obama's Parting Letter To US President, Donald Trump Been Revealed

Former US President, Barack Obama had some written words of wisdom for President Donald Trump on the day of his Inauguration, mostly on how to keep the country running smoothly in his absence.


Obama's penned parting letter has just been revealed. The one he wrote on his way out for the then-incoming President, which he left in the Resolute desk of the Oval Office for Trump to find later.

In the letter, Obama tells Trump to help people less fortunate than both of them, by doing "everything we can (to) build more ladders of success for every child and family that's willing to work hard."

Obama also tells Trump to lead by example among the international community, and to respect the democratic institutions of the Office of President - which, he reminds Trump, is only temporary.

And finally, Obama suggests making time for family to get Trump through the rough patches, ending it with an offer of help anytime he might need it.

Story of Catholic Priest Who Was Kidnapped and Killed In Imo State

The latest victim is a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Cyriacus Onunkwo, who was September 1, 2017, abducted and killed in cold blood.




It was learnt that in the evening of the same day, about 7pm, the newly ordained younger brother of Rev. Fr. Jude Udokwu, was somewhere close to Mbara Okporo with his friend, when some gunmen suspected to be kidnappers attacked them.

 Although the priest escaped by the whiskers, it was, however, gathered that his car was riddled with bullets.


 It was also gathered that the same armed group struck shortly after at Nkwoito. It was at this point, Vanguard gathered, that Fr. Onunkwo was kidnapped.

It was also gathered that the deceased priest came home to make arrangments for the burial of his father who died last Monday.

 An eye-witness account at the scene of the incident said “the kidnap victim looked very much like a priest,” but could not at the time, properly identify who he was.

When the police, who were working with Rev. Fr. Christopher Ihenetu came to the scene, they saw the abandoned Toyota Corolla car, searched it and found an envelope with Fr. Onunkwo’s name on it.

Vanguard equally gathered that with this recovery, Fr. Ihenetu started making enquiries and later discovered through the help of Fr. Udem and Fr. Ukoha that Fr. Onunkwo actually came home to arrange for his father’s burial and was staying at Fr. Udem’s place.

 It was further discovered that the Toyota Corolla car abandoned at the scene of the crime belonged to Fr. Onunkwo. Police confirm devt Confirming the incident in a telephone chat, yesterday, the state Commissioner of Police, CP, Mr. Chris Ezike, said the priest’s corpse had been recovered.

“The matter was properly reported to the police and we went into action. Less than 24 hours after, the Orsu Divisional Police Officer, DPO, reported the discovery of an abandoned corpse in its area of jurisdiction,” Ezike said.

 According to the Imo police boss, priests of Orlu Catholic Diocese were called in immediately and they identified the corpse as their priest.

No arrests have so far been made, but CP Ezike said that the police are still working to find the abductors of the priest.

In a statement issued in Lagos yesterday the minister urged Nigerians to disregard the news. The statement was signed by the Special Adviser to the minister, Mr Segun Adeyemi.

The minister said one of the numerous parody Twitter accounts in his name — “@MohammedLai”, was used to disseminate the fake and ludicrous news that claimed that President Buhari was due to leave Nigeria for the U.S. on Monday ”to condole with President Donald Trump over the floods in Houston”.

Mohammed Said Nigerians should disregard any news credited to any account in his name, either on Twitter or Facebook. That is why we are urging Nigerians to be more discerning and to double check any information emanating from Social Media.

Sad; American Singer, Lil Wayne Suffering From Seizures Again

Lil Wayne was hospitalized yet again this weekend for his ongoing bout with epilepsy and the seizures that come with it, TMZ has learnt.


Multiple sources tell them Wayne was hospitalized Sunday in Chicago after he was found unconscious in his hotel room at the Westin on Michigan Avenue after suffering at least one seizure.

He was rushed to Northwestern Memorial, where they are told he suffered yet another seizure.  TMZ sources say his team tried to have him discharged late Sunday afternoon so he could make it to his Vegas show.


However, doctors advised against the discharge, saying he should be grounded for a few days. Wayne has suffered seizures even while flying before, and the doctors say it's too risky.

Seizures have plagued Wayne for years. Just last year he had to cancel an appearance in Vegas because of his epilepsy.

Staffs of Ondo State Polytechnic Commenced Strike

Lecturers at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo in Ondo State have commenced a strike over the refusal of the school management to pay their arrears.


The lecturers, under the aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), are demanding the payment of arrears accruing over N1.7 billion.

The polytechnic lecturers in the school said they are owed ten months of arrears and that promises made by the authorities to resolve the matter have not been fulfilled.

They are also demanding the payment of sixteen months’ worth of Consolidated Polytechnic Salary Structure (CONPOCASS) allowance.


A source in the school said the union leaders have exhausted their strength in negotiations with the university authorities and were therefore left with no choice but to strike,

The source said the union leaders have also accused the management of the institution of being insensitive to the plight of the lecturers and staff members of the school.
