Still On It, Doctors Say No To Strike Call Off

The National Association of Resident Doctors on Thursday refused to call off its strike despite holding a 13-hour meeting with representatives of the Federal Government.

The meeting, which held at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja, ended in the early hours of Thursday, had in attendance the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige; the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole; and the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire.

Why did the doctors refuse to call off the strike?

Ministry of Labour in his words, the strike would continue until at least Friday when the doctors are expected to meet to review the offer by the government on their demands including payment of salary arrears owed.

"The meeting agreed that NARD national officers will present the outcome of the re-negotiated Memorandum of Terms of settlement to an emergency meeting of its members by Friday September 8, 2017 with a view to suspending the strike once there is evidence of payment of the mandate as presented to the meeting, to the affected institutions,” the statement noted.

Man Fights And Collects Gun From Armed Robber Who Stole Girlfriend’s Phone (Photos)

Operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State chapter have arrested a suspected armed robber, Identified as 'Michael David', after he robbed a lady of her phone..

According to report, 22-year-old David and two other members of his gang, while armed with a locally-made double-barreled pistol, attacked Kate and her boyfriend, one Desmond, on Close 26, Satellite Town, Ijegun, around 10pm.

They took Kate’s mobile phone and threatened to shoot the couple dead if they resisted...

The gang had allegedly mounted a waiting motorcycle and were about speeding off when Desmond summoned courage and attacked them.

He was said to have succeeded in pulling down David, as his girlfriend called for help.

Attempts by the suspect to shoot the victim failed, as the gun reportedly jammed.

David, an Imo State indigene was mobbed by residents, who handed him over to the police.

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Edgal Imohimi, paraded David among seven other suspected robbers at the Police Officers’ Mess, Ikeja, on Wednesday.

Imohimi said Desmond and Kate had closed from work and were heading home on August 13, 2017, when they were attacked by the robbers.

The suspect, who claimed to be a tiler, said he was not the owner of the gun, adding that it belonged to his friend, one Ahmed. He said his gang had only approached the girl to collect her phone, claiming that he was not an armed robber.

He said, “We were coming from a friend’s party around the Waterside area on that day when we sighted the girl passing with her boyfriend. We went to meet her to collect her phone and she suddenly raised the alarm. My friends ran away, but I was caught. I was not caught with the gun. Two to three hours after the incident, some OPC members brought the gun and said it belonged to me. I am not an armed robber and we didn’t attack the girl; we only collected her phone.”

But when the Investigating Police Officer challenged him on his denial of the gun, he owned up.

The policeman explained that the suspect had attempted to shoot Desmond and his girlfriend dead when the gun jammed.

“He made an attempt to shoot at them, but the gun disappointed him. He was the one holding the gun,” he said.

Important Things To Do Before Quitting One Job For Another

A good number of us get bitten by the entrepreneurial bug when working as employees on a 9 to 5 job, and we get that zeal to start a business venture of our own. While this can be a great and extremely rewarding decision, it can also be tasking one, it is therefore important to keep some vital things in mind before quitting your job to start a business.

Below are 4 things to do or steps to take before quitting your job to start a new business.

(1). Get Advice
As viable and brilliant you think your business idea or business plan is, you should talk to others and get advice before you quit your job to start a business, don’t just rush into it. Talk to trusted friends and mentors about what they think of your business idea and how promising they believe it is. Reach out to people that have experience in building entrepreneurial ventures and those that have quit their jobs for it, ask them for practical advice and guidance on how to go about yours. Most importantly, talk to your spouse, children or close family members (especially those that you are financially responsible for), and explain to them the financial implications of what you are about to do, so they can prepare for it the best way they can.

(2). Have A Solid Personal Financial Plan
Quitting your job to start a business means that you have to come to terms with the fact that your line of sustainable income is gone, and you will thus have to prepare for the hit your personal finance is going to take through the period of you trying to build up your business into one that you can draw reasonable revenue or income from. You first should consider how much money you need to continue your current lifestyle and compare it with how much money you actually have (savings included). If what you have can’t sustain your lifestyle, then it’s best you make more prudent adjustments to your current lifestyle. Also, you should have backup options to explore if you do run out of money in the meantime.

(3). Prepare For The Realities of Entrepreneurship
Becoming an entrepreneur has its good and glamorous sides, like becoming your own boss, making your own rules, building things up from the ground etc., but it also has its difficult sides. For one, most entrepreneurial ventures fail and the entrepreneurs end up having to go back to work as employees. Also, most of the successful entrepreneurs of today have had to deal with a lot of setbacks sometimes becoming broke in the process, coming to the brink of failure, or even eventually failing and having to pick up the pieces and get back up multiple times. Entrepreneurship is definitely not for the fainthearted and as rewarding as it can be, it can also be hard and extremely tasking.

(4). Don’t Burn Bridges
A good number of people quit their 9-5 jobs to start a business on very bad terms with their employers. They damn their employers and tell them off, exiting the job in an anything but smooth process. This should not be so. You should never burn your bridges in the professional world, especially with former employers, because you might need them in the future as clients, as partners to your business in a mutually beneficial relationship, or to even come back to work for them if your business idea doesn’t pan out as well as expected. Whatever the reason, you should never end things with your employer on bitter terms, and when you decide to leave, try as much as possible to make your exit from the company as smooth as possible to preserve important relationships.

So, Think wisely,,

'When All Nigerians Can Eat Three Square Meals, That’s When The Real Recession Ends' - Atiku Abubakar

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said that recession in Nigeria will come to an end only when average Nigerians begin to eat three square meals daily. He said news report that Nigeria is officially out of recession is positive but more work is needed to make things better.

As seen on his verified Twitter handle. Atiku said this in a series of tweets. See below:
“As a Nigerian, investor and employer of labour, the news of Nigeria’s official emergence from the recession is most welcome.

“The news is surely a boost for Nigeria — it tells investors, local and foreign, that our economy is worth investing in.

“While we rejoice, it’s also important to recognise that economic weakness at the bottom of the pyramid remains. Inflation is still high.

“We must continue working hard to expand economic opportunity for all Nigerians.

“When all Nigerians can eat three square meals, that’s when the real recession ends. We have work to do.”

As A Christian, These Are What You Need To Do In Other To Build Up Your Faith And Make It Strong

The more I have read through the Bible over the years, the more I have come to identify with different key players in the story of Scripture.

When we pick up the story right after Jesus was raised from the dead in John 20:24, we read that Thomas was not around when Jesus came to visit his disciples. He missed the action, and his friends wouldn’t let him live it down.

They had an encounter with Christ himself, and Thomas missed it. Understandably, he starts to doubt. He says to them, “‘If I don’t see the mark of the nails in his hands, put my finger into the mark of the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will never believe.’” (John 20:25)

Thomas wanted proof that the story was true, that Christ really had died and come back to life. He wanted tangible evidence. He wanted assurance and affirmation, and I don’t blame him. I would want the same.

According to Michael Kelley, He wrote: “What To Do When You’re Stuck in Doubt” on For the Church, and he asks these questions about the response of Thomas: “Were these words of insecurity? The same way we might try and talk ourselves into believing that the thing we missed wasn't actually the best party every or the most exciting football finish in history? Were these words of anger, aimed honestly at himself for his blunder in scheduling? Were these words of sadness, redirected to verbalize a lack of faith, but more honestly expressing a deep sadness for his absence? We don’t know.

What we know is that Thomas made a bold claim that he wouldn't believe without physical proof… and we know what the next verses say he did following that claim.

Thomas kept showing up.
We read in verse 26 that Thomas was with the disciples a week later when Jesus came and stood among them. He had seven days of doubting and wanting evidence, and for many of us, that would have also meant seven days of giving up and walking away from it all feeling like we missed our chance. But Thomas didn't walk away, he stayed close, surrounded by the people who had experienced the risen Lord earlier that week.

“This is the best thing that you and I can do when we, like Thomas, are feeling overcome with doubt,” Kelley writes. “We keep showing up.”

In my seasons of doubt, often the last thing I want to do is show up, but it’s also the best thing I could do for myself and my faith.

Kelley concludes his article with this:
“True enough, on those days of doubt we might find ourselves sitting in the midst of God’s people, singing songs that we’re not sure we fully believe. Listening to words that seem to ring hollow in our hearts. Feeling devoid of the emotion that characterizes so many of those around us. And we might, for a time, feel as though we are the only one – on the outside looking in at a group of people with some common shared experience that, at least in the moment, seems to have faded in our own memory. But we are still there. Something inside us has compelled us to be with the people of Jesus.
We, too, keep showing up.
And as we do, we find that in showing up that memory is rekindled. As we sing together, our souls are lifted and our minds are put at ease. It’s not like a magic pill where you simply gather with God’s people and everything is okay again, but slowly, over time, we find that this same Jesus who we wondered whether was really dead or alive, reveals Himself to our cold hearts again, and we know that He has been there all along.”

While Thomas might best be known for his doubting, he also should be known for his persistence in showing up. He saw the Lord because he kept showing up and making himself available, and it led to him having an encounter with Jesus that solidified his faith.

May we learn from the example of Thomas and believe even when we cannot see -- may faith replace our doubt and may we keep showing up, time and time again.
