We Will Join Others On Nationwide Strike - Electricity Workers

National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, make a serious threats to join others for the impending nationwide strike.

Electricity workers

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, yesterday said loading of products, including aviation fuel, would stop from today as affiliates of United Labour Congress of Nigeria, ULC, begin an indefinite strike.

According to Financial Watch, the industrial action is fresh move by the United Labor Congress, ULC, a union that seeks to act as umbrella for both NLC and TUC. However, leaders of the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Employees, NUBIFIE, said members may not effectively join the strike today because the union just concluded its delegates conference weekend, warning, however, that members would fully join should the strike persist.

But the NLC and TUC have insisted that ULC was fake, since it was not recognized by government, and urged Nigerians to ignore the group.

Similarly, the Federal Ministry of Labour also held on to its earlier position that the ULC was not recognized by the Federal Government.

The Presidency, through the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said last night that the Presidency stands by the Labour Minister’s position that the ULC is not recognized by the Federal Government.

I Started With Just N15,000 – Tara Fela-Durotoye Speaks On How She Started Makeup Business

Today we take a look at Tara Fela-Durotoye of House of Tara, and how she was able to navigate the uncharted waters of starting a new course of business in a country as Nigeria.

Tara Fela-Durotoye

Introduction
Tara Fela-Durotoye is a Nigerian-born lawyer turned Africa's leading beauty and makeup entrepreneur. She started House of Tara at the age of 20, from her living room, whilst an undergraduate at the Lagos State University back in 1998. She's since gone on to launch Nigeria's first ever bridal directory in 1999, and in 2004 she opened the country's leading beauty academy. Today, Tara has over 3,000 reps spread across Nigeria and 14 stores to her name and she is steadfastly dedicated to realising her vision of building a globally respected beauty company of African origin. Tara remains an inspirational role-model and mentor to make-up artists and aspiring beauty business owners across Africa. Tara made the Forbes’ list of 20 Young Power Women in Africa, 2013 and was also nominated as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.

Finding Passion
While she acknowledged that "creating a business that impacts and generates income, developing micro entrepreneurs who will grow their businesses and employ more people so as to make the Nigerian economy better is what's most important" and fuels her passion, it was not all that easy for the young entrepreneur. The society was such that had no place for entrepreneurship, and need not talk of a young lady at that. With her education, she was expected to earn her living being a lawyer, but the young Tara had to follow her dream.
“I was in secondary school many years ago and a man came to speak to us. He came to speak to us as an entrepreneur, that is, as a business man. He was in advertising and because he was creative, I found him interesting. He made me interested in business.... I eventually went to the university and I studied law. As an undergraduate, while I was still in school I started a business. I started with just N15,000 (fifteen thousand naira)."
She later trained as a makeup artist of Charles Fox. According to Tara, her mother was her major source of inspiration while growing up: “ She was a fantastic woman, very fashionable, so when you looked at her dressing table she had make-up products, she would paint her face in the morning, she never missed her hairdressing appointment, her nail polish was always perfect. I grew up seeing her adorn herself and I liked looking at her through all that process. I didn't know that a seed was being sown in my heart.”

Challenges
Every startup entrepreneur has his own share of challenges and House of Tara was not any different. While some challenges may fade away as your outfit moves up on the growth chart, others just stay put or dissolve into another according to the peculiarities of the outfit. According to Tara: “At start up, we faced challenges with raising funds. In Nigeria, you need to be able to get financing and raising funds was a big problem. Also, our industry is an informal one and as pioneers, we could not find standards to copy. It’s easier when you see something you can copy but when you have to think it through and make it up as they come along, it’s not easy. Now, we are dealing with challenges of attracting talent and retaining them; keeping the voice of the vision across multiple branches and across a number of people. We also face the challenge of people asking us to sell shares in the company and people consistently looking for ways to be part of the business that will boom.”

Dare To Be Different
One major challenge for startups is carving a niche for themselves out of an over saturated market or industry. Even established organisations pay a huge sum to just keep rebranding an over flogged idea or concept. The motivation is to always remain original with your concept, otherwise you'll get drowned in the crowd of opinions or competitions
For Tara, she believes you should “Stay true to yourself, stay true to what you are trying to achieve, otherwise you get distracted. Side comments, how people think you should do things, and I think that everyone wants to hear their own voice so you need to stay true to yourself. Before you come out of your house you have to decide, yes this is what I want to do. You still need counsel but you should be able to apply counsel to your own decision to be able to take insightful steps.”

Conclusively, the impact her startup organisation has had on the lives of people cannot be waved off. According to Harvey S. Firestone: "The growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership". Speaking about the impact her entrepreneurial journey has had in the country, Tara says: “For us it’is the impact we are making that is most rewarding. The jobs… there are many people who are looking for jobs today and the beauty industry has given an opportunity for young people who are very excited about beauty, and you know Nigerians are very fashionable and love beauty. We have given many people the opportunity to start up something as a business, to be business owners, to start up their own businesses and to make money from it but also to be financially independent and many them have had to employ one or two people as well and I think that gives greater joy, for us.”

Sars Arrested Man While Attepting To Sell Stolen Benz G-Wagon Worth N37m

Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Lagos Police Command, have arrested a man, Andrew Agofure, suspected to have burgled a house at Lekki-Ajah area of the metropolis and stole a Mercedes Benz G-Wagon valued at N37 million.

The Suspect

According to report,  Agofure has denied the allegation.

According to the investigators, all efforts made to find the vehicle within Lagos were futile. Police said they were also looking for another suspect, identified simply as Patrick. The police believe that the fleeing Patrick masterminded the robbery.

A source said: “We didn’t, however, give up. We kept digging and finally tracked the car to Nasarawa State. We were shocked that the jeep had been moved from Lagos to Nasarawa State. When we discovered that it had been placed online for sale, we swung into action. Although it was moved to Nasarawa State, it was displayed at a car mart in Abuja.”

The team of detectives that cracked the case was led by Deputy Superintendent Police Akinola Aduroja. The suspect, Agofure, was arrested on August 30.

The police alleged that Patrick drove the vehicle from Lekki-Ajah in Lagos State to Nasarawa State but placed at a car mart in Abuja for sale. The police disclosed that the jeep, which was N37 million, was placed on the online mart for N15 million.

DSP Aduroja said: “We posed as buyers that wanted to buy the jeep for N15 million online. We arrested the suspect when he came to sell the jeep to us. The jeep, whose location was Abuja, was recovered in a forest in Nasarawa State around midnight.”

He said that on August 22, about 7.30p.m., Muiz Adebayo Ajayi, of No. 10A, Lucky Garden, Road 17, County Homes, Lekki-Ajah, Lagos reported a conspiracy, burglary and stealing to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Imohimi Edgal, through a petition. The petitioner alleged that he travelled to Kenya and upon his return on August 20; he discovered that the main gate to the compound had been broken by unknown persons.

Ajayi added that one jeep, with registration number BGD 2 EV and some electronics valued at N1.2 million were stolen from the house of his elder brother, Adekunle Odunlami, who was in Malaysia. In a bid to track down those that burgled the Lekki-Ajah home of the complainant, Aduroja and his men posed as buyers.

On September 6, Agofure appeared to pick the cheque for the car and was grabbed. Since Agofure’s arrest, police have been looking for Patrick. But Agofure said he did not know anything about the robbery. However, he said a man, Tony, who he met at a cybercafé and became friends with, taught him how to hack into different sites.

See What Nollywood Actress, Dayo Amusa Have To Say About Not Getting Married Early

Nollywood Actress Dayo Amusa has revealed there must always be critics in your life, hence you aren;t relevant and most critics even wish they were you.

She also spoke about marriage saying, is it mandatory for everyone to be married?

The actress said;

You need to understand that people don’t talk about someone that is not known. When people talk about you, it means you are in the spotlight where everybody can see you. Some of the people who say hurtful things about you even want to be like you. Some of them are just craving for attention and that is why they say nasty things hoping to be noticed. But I have been in this industry for a while and I’m used to all their tricks. I don’t even pay attention to whatever is being said about me in the grapevine. If you criticise me constructively, I will listen to you, and learn if it’s beneficial. Otherwise, I keep my eyes on the prize and I keep winning,”

Also sharing her thoughts about marriage, Amusa said, “I made a post on social media sometime ago asking if it’s compulsory for everybody to get married. I asked that question because the society makes it seem like something is wrong with you if you are not married at a certain age. Meanwhile, I think personal happiness is the most important thing.”

No One Can Deny I Brought New Vibes To The Nigeria Music Industry - Mr Eazi Claims

Mr Eazi

According to what Sunday Scoops had with him;

Mr Eazi, has been in the eye of the storm lately over some statements he has been making. During a recent radio interview, the singer had claimed that the practice of infusing Ghanaian sounds  and slangs into Nigerian music was started by him. And that, other artistes in the country are now copying his ‘formula’ in order to have hit songs like him. Immediately the video recording of the interview surfaced on the Internet, Nigerians lambasted him for making false claims.

The dust had yet to settle down on that incident before the controversial singer also claimed that he rejected an oil and gas job that would have fetched him $6,000 per month in order to pursue his music career. Meanwhile, some Nigerians shared pictures of Mr Eazi’s LinkedIn page, which showed that the singer only worked as an intern at Schlumberger for six months in 2010.

However, in a chat with Sunday Scoop, the singer stood by his words. “The interview that caused this uproar was just me speaking my mind and saying things the way I see it from my perspective. It wasn’t meant to be an insult to any Nigerian artiste. You cannot deny that I brought a new vibe to the industry and I believe everybody can see that. Now, there are lots of Nigerian artistes who use Ghanaian words and melodies in their songs, but they’ve never been to Ghana. So how did they get to know about those words? There are a lot more songs out now that have that Ghanaian influence, and with all due respect, I can boldly say that started after my songs started gaining popularity.”

Asked to mention one artiste that has ‘copied’ his style, the dreadlocks-wearing singer said, “I don’t have to mention anybody’s name. I am sure that those who are discerning know what I’m talking about.”

Speaking on the $6,000 job he allegedly turned down for music, Mr Eazi said, “I turned down the job; I didn’t say I had started working there. I don’t think there is anything wrong with being an intern. I don’t have anything to gain by lying about such a thing. The truth remains that I was offered a job by Schlumberger, but I decided not to take it, but rather concentrated on my career. And that is a decision I’ve never regretted till date.”
