The minister said:
The material that the Chairman of the PTF spoke about, which is an announcement purportedly from him that we are reopening all schools on the 8th did not emanate from us. That is not true.
Until we are sure that these children can go to school, return safely and not bring home with them, this COVID material, and infect people who are more susceptible to the disease than they are, then we are running a huge risk and god forbid that in our hurry, something happens to our children, I’m not sure how anybody will be able to retrieve what would have been lost.
So we are not taking that risk yet. We are going to prepare as much as possible, within the guidance that they (health authorities) offer us, working in conjunction with the World Health Organisation before we reopen schools.
The NFF president, Amaju Pinnick announced on Wednesday via Twitter that both parties have finalised contractual negotiations resulting in the German tactician remaining with the Super Eagles.
I’m happy to announce that the Nigeria Football Federation and Coach Gernot Rohr have concluded all contractual discussions and he will stay on as Coach of the Super Eagles. We have always had confidence in his abilities and we are confident that the national team can only go higher from here.
We can now focus on qualifying for the World Cup and winning the Nations Cup. In truth, these are sacrosanct and Coach Rohr is aware of these conditions. Like the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development has rightly noted; we are uncompromising in these goals.
The board of the Federation & I are totally in agreement with the minister on the goals for the team and it is unwavering. In the same vein, I would like to thank our sponsors, especially AITEO group.
AITEO’s support for our football is unquantifiable, even in these difficult times and I cannot stress enough, how much of a rock they have been. Thank you, AITEO.
With the distraction of the contract talks out of the way now, we can now face our football on the pitch, totally. Again, I never lost confidence in Gernot Rohr’s ability to take our football forward and I’m convinced our football will only get better from here on.

BBC News Hausa Service has announced that it would start welcoming entries for this year’s edition of its annual short writing competition as from June 1.
In a statement to TheCable Lifestyle on Thursday, the news outlet said details of guidelines for the competition will be made available on its website when the competition opens.
It said the entries for the contest would close on August 24, adding that the winner and two runners up would each receive a cash prize and plaque at a special awards night in November.
The contest — introduced in 2016 to encourage women to share their stories — welcomes works of fiction from women writing Hausa and entries should be between 1000-1500 words.
The 2019 edition of the competition was won by Safiyya Ahmad, a 23-year-old from Zaria, Kaduna state for her story ‘Maraici’, which chronicled the ordeals of a girl neglected at infancy.
Aliyu Tanko, BBC News Hausa editor, said this year’s edition of the contest would further provide women the opportunity of sharing their stories with the world.
“This is yet another fantastic opportunity to bring out a talented Hausa writer to share her mastery with the rest of the world,” he said.
Similarly, Oluwatoyosi Ogunseye, head of BBC West Africa Languages, expressed delight that the competition has continued to witness increase in the number of women participants annually.
“BBC Hausa is consistently engaging with its female audiences through this competition and we are delighted to see more women participate yearly,” Ogunseye said.
Participants are expected to send their entries here.
