‘Solving Covid-19 is Very Easy Compared With Climate Change – Bill Gates Says
According to Gates who has become more vocal since the pandemic started, achieving net zero would be ‘humanity’s greatest ever achievement’
Solving climate change would be “the most amazing thing humanity has ever done”, the billionaire founder of Microsoft said to BBC.
‘Ending the pandemic is very, very easy”, he claims.
“We’ve never made a transition like we’re talking about doing in the next 30 years. There is no precedent for this.”
“Fifty-one billion is how many tonnes of greenhouse gases the world typically adds to the atmosphere each year.”
“Net zero is where we need to get to.This means cutting emissions to a level where any remaining greenhouse gas releases are balanced out by absorbing an equivalent amount from the atmosphere. One way to do this is by planting trees, which soak up CO2 through their leaves.”
Gates says his focus is on how technology can help make climate change easily handled.
“Renewable sources like wind and solar can help us decarbonise electricity but that’s less than 30% of total emissions.”
“We are also going to have to decarbonise the other 70% of the world economy – steel, cement, transport systems, fertiliser production and much, much more.
“We simply don’t have ways of doing that at the moment for many of these sectors.
Gates says for climate change to be tackled there must be an innovation effort on a scale the world has never seen before.
‘At the moment, the economic system doesn’t price in the real cost of using fossil fuels.
Most users don’t pay anything for the damage to the environment done by
pollution from the petrol in their car or the coal or gas that created
the electricity in their home.”
“Right now, you don’t see the pain you’re causing as you emit carbon dioxide,”
“We need to have price signals to tell the private sector that we want green products,” he says.
That is going to require a huge investment by governments in research and development, Gates argued.
Gate maintains it will be impossible to avoid a disaster, particularly for those who live near the equator, without governments around the world getting behind the effort.
He says the US Republican Party needs to recognise the importance of tackling climate change.
This needs to be a “constant 30-year push”, he maintains. “Business just can’t change all that physical infrastructure unless the market signals are constant and very clear.”
Bill Gates Co-founded Microsoft in 1975 and is the World’s fourth richest person with a net worth of $124bn, according to Forbes
“India is going to build housing for their people, provide lighting at night, air conditioning to make conditions liveable,”
“If you buy an electric car, a hamburger made of a meat substitute, an electric heat pump for your home you are helping increase the production of these products and therefore helping drive prices down.”
Gates stated his private jets are powered by biofuels – aviation fuels made from plant products.
“I pay three times as much now for my aviation fuel, you know, over $7m [£5m] a year in all my offset spending.”
“I don’t think getting rid of flying would make sense,” he replies. “That type of brute force technique won’t get us there.”
He says the answer has to be “a type of aviation fuel that doesn’t cost much extra and is zero emission and that’s got to be biofuels or electric fuels or perhaps using green hydrogen to power the plane”.
On Monday morning, Gates wrote on Twitter;
“To avoid a climate disaster, we need to eliminate emissions from the ways we create electricity, grow food, make things, move around, and heat and cool our buildings. It won’t be easy, but I believe we can do it. This book is about what it will take.”

In 2020, Vector and MI’s beef reached a climax in which both rappers released a slew of diss tracks at each other.
Speaking at a news conference to promote his new album, Vector revealed how an alcoholic brand stepped into their beef, and they made money out of it.
“Did we make money with the beef tracks? Yes, the records sold. Yes, there comes a special demand for beef tracks by the fans. Our songs were streamed a lot; I mean, we trended at number one in the US. both beef tracks trended at number on the Genuis.com” Vector started.
Vector also revealed that he and MI were going to go on a world tour round the world to also pass a message across to other artists that beefs don’t have to go beyond music.
Vector also revealed that the yet-to-be released album, T.E.S.L.I.M, meaning The Energy Still Lives In Me, features MI, of which the track will drop on February 26, 2021.

Nigeria President, Muhammadu Buhari Appoints Another New Service Chief
The Nigerian government announced the appointment of the new military commander on its official Twitter handle on Saturday, February 13.
Adebayo succeeds Air Vice Marshal Muhammed Usman, who recently retired from service.
The statement read:
”President @MBuhari has appointed Maj.-Gen. Samuel Adebayo as Nigeria’s new Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI) and Head of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA). He succeeds Air Vice Marshal Muhammed Usman, who recently retired from service.”

Lagos State Police Command Warns, says No Protest Will be Allowed for #OccupyLekkiTollgGate
Gentlemen of the press, I deemed it imperative to jointly address you and the general public with the Honourable Commissioner for Justice, Lagos State, on the stance of the Police command on the proposed Endsars protest slated for Saturday 13th February, 2021, being championed by some individuals, Hashtag #OCCUPYLAGOSLEKKITOLLGATE, at Lekki Toll Gate plaza, Lagos State.
Permit me to state in clear terms that organising any protest in furtherance of the recent violent and destructive Endsars protest will be counterproductive to the ongoing series of inquiries and investigations into many cases related to the Endsars violence and the present security situation of the state.
Above all, the command has gathered intelligence that some hidden agents of destruction and shadow parties that planned and orchestrated the last Endsars violence have concluded plans to cause another set of mayhem in Lagos State and spread same to other parts of the country, tactically and spontaneously, like the recent violence.
Premised on the available intelligence and due threat analyses carried out on the planned protest, the command perceives such proposed protest as a calculated attempt to cause pandemonium, brouhaha and massive destruction of lives and properties under whatever guide and such will not be allowed in Lagos State.
The Lagos State, its people and the Nigerian nation at large are still groaning (in pains) for the aftermath of the last Endsars violence that left many lives and properties lost. It is therefore not reasonable to allow same to repeat itself in the state.
More expedient why such gathering should not hold is the prevailing Covid- 19 virus which is rampaging in the country. You will all recall four days ago, the Federal Government Task Force on Covid-19 declared that the country now has 13 variants of Covid-19 virus which makes it more deadly.
With this development, all hands must be on deck to halt the spread of the virus by self-complying with its protocols major which is maintenance social distance.
In addition, the judgement pronounced on the reopening of the Lekki Toll Gate plaza has been misconceptualized by the Endsars agitators, which I am sure the Hon Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of Lagos State has addressed.
The Panel of inquiry on #EndSARS violence in the State has taken drastic steps to forwards reports to the state government on the payment of compensations to affected individuals that were adjudged victims of Police brutality and excessiveness.
The government has released some amount of money to take care of these compensations accordingly. On this note, the Command therefore warns that, in as much as the Police respects peoples opinions and human rights, no protest will be allowed in any part of the state as the security of lives and properties of the Government and the good people of Lagos State is paramount and not negotiable.
The Command also warns that adequate arrangement and deployment of security forces to kick against and dislodge any violent protest, gathering and procession in any part of the state has been emplaced.
The decision of the command in this regard is in the interest of all and sundry in Lagos and to ensure that the statutory responsibilities of the Nigeria Police Force are not compromised.
I therefore appeal to the general public, particularly parents and guardians, to discourage and warn their children and wards to ignore any unreasonable call or mobilization for protest or gathering which runs against the existing peace and security situation of the state.
I wish to also warn that the command will not hesitate to resist any protest and/or gathering with all available resources at its disposal but within the ambit of the law.
